Colonel George Edwardson is a British officer working for the British East India Company and the superior of Lieutenant Nanib Sahir. He is the main antagonist of the Act III: India campaign in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties.
Biography[]
| “ | After several failed careers, one in law and one in politics, George Edwardson chose to study military history and the art of war, following in the footsteps of his older brother Percy. Interested only in active service, Edwardson traveled to India, where he commanded an army of native sepoys and British troops in the service of the British East India Company. His campaigns during the Company's important annexation of Punjab in 1849 cemented Edwardson's reputation as a decisive and courageous field commander. With regards to his attitudes towards the Indian population, Edwardson suffered a passionate and radical shift in ideology in 1842, when his brother was killed in the First Anglo-Afghan War. Percy was one of the few unlucky soldiers of the 44th battalion, the British garrison that was surrounded and massacred by Afghan forces. Like much of the British public, Edwardson saw this act as barbarous, and he supported the British army's devastating retaliation. The death of his brother affected Edwardson deeply, and he allowed it to encourage his already racist tendencies towards the regional populations. In the subsequent years, Edwardson became less predictable as an officer and often allowed his personal feelings to guide his strategy. Over time, his name became tainted by a series of controversies regarding his brutality towards sepoy soldiers and innocent civilians. Edwardson is an intolerant man who thinks Company rule in India is the key to a prosperous empire. His prejudice towards the Indian people was worsened by the death of his older brother Percy in the first Anglo-Afghan War. He commands Nanib Sahir on two scenarios against the Sepoy Rebels, but Nanib eventually joins the rebels and fights against Edwardson, killing him at his Company outpost.
As Edwardson is shown dying in front of his fallen horse, he threatens and curses the Indians, but Nanib explains to him that no military force can kill the Indians' passion for their country.

Colonel Edwardson fights with his officer's saber and rides his horse in combat. He has the ability to train Sepoys, but cannot move and attack while doing so.
Like other heroes, Colonel Edwardson has many hit points, but if he falls, he will collapse instead of dying and need to regenerate enough hit points to be rescued by allies. He can collect treasures but, unlike Explorers, cannot build Trading Posts and Town Centers, and has no special abilities.

Trivia[]
- When Colonel Edwardson collapses in battle, a text box appears that says: "Never! I will not perish on this forsaken soil..."
- He may be named after two English kings: George III and Edward I, both of whom have been vilified in history for their treatment of the American Colonies and the Scottish people, respectively, making their actions comparable to Edwardson's cruelty towards the Indian populace.
