The Club Warrior (War Club before the Definitive Edition) is a melee heavy infantry in Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs that is unique to the Lakota and can be trained at the War Hut once the Commerce Age is reached.

Overview

The Club Warrior is effective against cavalry and Shock Infantry. It does hand damage and has a relatively good siege attack. Use the war club as a cavalry counter and a Shock Infantry counter. The Club Warrior acts like a Pikeman to the Lakota with slightly more attack versus other units except cavalry.

It can be combined with Cetan Bowmen to form a cheap combo to take out infantry and cavalry. It can however be defeated by cavalry with a large amount of hit points and splash damage such the Cuirassier, Mahout Lancer, and the Sipahi, or cavalry with a bonus against infantry like Lancer, Jat Lancer, etc.

Trivia

• The weapon used by the Club Warrior is a gunstock war club, an indigenous weapon used by Native Americans. Indigenous tribes of America most likely created the design of the club based upon European firearms.
  • The other units that use these clubs are the Axe Rider, Lakota Axe Rider, and Kanya Horseman.
  • The Club Warrior is also one of several anti-cavalry units in the Age of Empires series to use a club, the others being the Nootka Clubman, the Nootka War Chief, the Mapuche Ironwood Clubman, the Yamabushi, and the Maceman from Age of Empires III, as well as the Katapeltes from Age of Mythology.
