Strategy[]

Chongli improves both the player's military and economy. His most notable technology, Heavenly Fire, removes the food and wood costs of all armory technologies, making it possible to upgrade units sooner (as long as gold is plentiful). Stirrup provides an impressive boost of HP to cavalry units, the most common type of human soldier available to the Chinese. This enables units like Cataphracts to last much longer in battle, thus saving the player resources that would otherwise be needed to replace fallen soldiers. Nü Wa worshipers can use these benefits in combination with Chang'e's Houyi's Bow technology to mass-produce a super powered army of Mounted Archers.

On water maps, Chongli also grants all ships a significant boost in speed with the Ancient Destroyer technology. Not only will war ships be more maneuverable but Transport Ships can also carry units across water much faster, giving enemies less time to respond. The inferno God Power can cause decent damage to an enemy town prior to an attack. Only enemy units and buildings will be affected so players can safely send one cavalry to scout ahead, pick a pristine location to start the blaze and follow up with an attack. This can also be performed by Chongli's Myth Unit, the Vermilion Bird, which can fly over all obstacles and wreak havoc with powerful firestorms. As they also deal crush damage, Vermilion Birds can act as more mobile siege weapons while being supported by the player's cavalry below.

Mythology[]

Chongli or Zhurong is a god of fire and warfare, who rides a giant tiger into battle. He has a son, Gong Gong, a sea monster and troublemaker.

Gong Gong once plotted to take the throne of heaven from Shangdi, and Chongli his father donned his armor and mounted his war tiger to stop him. He and Gong Gong dueled for many days in the heavens, and finally Chongli smote his son down to Earth. Furious at his loss, Gong Gong bashed his head against the pillars which held the earth in place, and Nü Wa had to fix the world with the help of the great turtle Ao. Chongli, victorious, ascended back to heaven as the god of fire and Lord of the South.
