Chemistry is a technology in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the University in the Imperial Age. It increases the bonus damage of gunpowder siege engines by 25%. The Knights Templar, who lack any gunpowder units, do not have access to this technology.
Note: The Nest of Bees does not benefit from this technology. Whether this is intended or a bug is unknown.
Civilization bonuses[]
Abbasid Dynasty: Research speeds are +15%/+20% faster while Golden Age tiers 2/3 are active. If Preservation of Knowledge has been researched, this technology costs -20%.
Ayyubids: Research speeds are 25% faster while Golden Age tier 2 is active
Byzantines: Research speeds are 30% faster per water level at buildings within the influence of a Cistern with the Dialecticus ability active.
Chinese and
Zhu Xi's Legacy: The technology is granted automatically in the Dark Age
Delhi Sultanate: The technology is free, but takes 12x as long to research (720 seconds instead of 90 seconds).
French and
Jeanne d'Arc: This technology researches 50% faster at the College of Artillery.
House of Lancaster: This technology is 15% cheaper if King's College has been constructed.
Malians: Technologies take less time to research based on how much gold has been obtained through trade.
Mongols: The technology is available in the Blacksmith.
Changelog[]
- Originally, the base research time for the Delhi Sultanate was 5x default (450 seconds). With update 8324, this was increased to 15x default (1350 seconds). With Season Two Update 17718, it takes 12x as long (1080 seconds). With update 12.0.1974, it takes 720 seconds after the base research time was decreased.
- Originally Chemistry cost 300 food, 700 gold and took 90 seconds to research. With update 12.0.1974, it costs 200 food, 650 gold and takes 60 seconds to research.
- Originally, Chemistry increased the damage of all gunpowder units by 20%, but did not affect bonus damage. With update 12.0.1974, it now increases the bonus damage of gunpowder siege units only.
Campaign version[]
Because the campaigns do not get rebalanced with each update, Adjustable Crossbars maintains the same stats in each campaign that it had upon the campaign's release. Therefore, in the original four campaigns:
- It unlocks the production of gunpowder units, like in Age of Empires II.
- It costs 175 food, 600 gold and takes 180 seconds to research.
- For the Mongols, it is available in the Arsenal.
In the The Sultans Ascend campaign
- It costs 300 food, 700 gold and takes 90 seconds to research.
- It increases the base damage of all gunpowder units by 20%, but does not affect bonus damage.
