The Chain is an unconstructable building in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Return of Rome. They simply act as obstacles, similar to any wall.
Chains come in four different perspectives: horizontal, vertical and two separate diagonal. Like all gate-like buildings, its horizontal and vertical forms have an odd 4×4 collision (matching its selection area), which does not perfectly match the visuals of the building.
Age of Empires[]
Chains were imported from Age of Empires II to the Age of Empires mode in Return of Rome. They cannot be built in normal gameplay. They can be found in the scenario editor.
Trivia[]
- It has the Tower armor class despite not being a tower.
- It also has an armor class for the charged attack of the Leitis, most likely as a bug since the Leitis does not exist in the Return of Rome game mode.
Age of Empires II[]
Chains cannot be built in normal gameplay, and are only available in the Scenario Editor.
Campaign appearances[]
- The Scourge of God: A pen containing horses in the main Hunnic camp is composed of Chains.
Honfoglalás: Several Chains represent the sheep enclosure inside the Magyar base. One more Chain is part of the horse enclosure.
- The Cleansing of Paris: Several Chains make up the Armagnac blockade of the Seine River. A Guild leader asks John to destroy them.
- Star of the Poles: Chains block off two river passages leading into Halych, connecting to Fortified Walls and a Tower on land.
- Duel of the Dukes: Like the previous scenario, the town immediately northeast of the starting position contains Chains that block off the river running through it.
- The Siege of Vilnius: The southern river passage into Vilnius is blocked off by chains.
- Alexander Safavi: Chains make up the enclosure containing the Baghdadi Camels.
- The Protectorate: Several Chains block off river passages within Shamkor. Another one does the same thing in the Turkoman camp.
Trivia[]
- The Definitive Edition's Sea Gate takes most of its appearance from the chain, with its body directly using the latter's textures.
