| This article is about the cavalry units in Chronicles. For the armor class, see Armor class: Cavalry. For cavalry units in other games of the series, see cavalry. |
Cavalry in Chronicles are one of the general types of military units, the others being infantry, archers, siege weapons, and ships.
Cavalry deal melee damage at melee range. Their high bulk (hit points and/or armor) as well as high mobility makes them particularly dangerous to enemy siege weapons and archers, especially foot archers, in general. Their speed can be utilised to easily dispatch enemy Villagers or Trade Carts if they can find a way into the enemy's base, thus making cavalry units highly desirable for raids. Heavy cavalry is also highly preferable in frontline combat as they can catch up to vulnerable targets and disengage from unfavorable fights easily. While better than infantry in almost every way, cavalry units are also costlier. While they can resist arrowfire from enemy defenses better, they are slower at taking down buildings. They also have larger hitboxes than other non-siege land unit types, which has several repercussions for combat and pathfinding.
Mounted archers like Cavalry Archers are also considered cavalry units for the purposes of armor classes (such as bonus damage received from Spearmen), as well as effects of technologies which affect all cavalry in general, except for Blacksmith technologies, where they benefit from archer technologies instead of cavalry ones. Despite this, they are generally considered archer units instead of cavalry, hence they are not listed below.

Civilizations[]
The Achaemenids are the exemplar cavalry civilization. The others lack units and/or technologies, while also not having any particular bonuses or unique technologies which may benefit their cavalry. Despite this, the versatility of the Lancer results in a Classical Age Lancer rush being a viable option for all civilizations. The Macedonians are also an excellent cavalry civilization, as they can fully upgrade their heavy cavalry, gain a potential timing advantage due to their bonus of cavalry benefiting from infantry armor upgrades, and have the Companion Cavalry which serve as fast-moving medium shock troops.
