Cannon Emplacement is a weapon emplacement in Age of Empires IV for the Outpost, Keep, and Toll Outpost available in the Imperial Age. After upgrading, the structure gains a powerful, defensive cannon attack which deals its full damage over a 0.375 tile radius area. As an emplacement, it is not subject to most bonuses that affect researching technologies.

The Ottoman Keep (replaced by Great Bombard Emplacement since Season Five) and the Rus Wooden Fortress do not have this emplacement, but the Ottoman Outposts and the Rus Keep do. The Knights Templar have the Trebuchet Emplacement instead, although it is quite different from the Cannon Emplacement.

Civilization bonuses[]

  • Byzantines: When researched at a building within the influence of a Cistern with the Dialecticus ability active, the research speed of this emplacement is 30% faster per water level at the Cistern.
  • Chinese and Zhu Xi's Legacy: The emplacement researches 150% faster when the Keep or Outpost is supervised by an Imperial Official. For Zhu Xi's Legacy, this can be improved to 300% faster after researching Regional Inspection.
  • Holy Roman Empire and Order of the Dragon: Emplacements cost 20% less. They also benefit from Relics garrisoned within their defensive building.
