—Age of Empires IV description
The Buddhist Temple is a religious building in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend unique to the Japanese that can be built starting in the Castle Age if the Temple of Equality landmark was chosen. It functions as and replaces the Monastery, produces Buddhist Monks, and can research religious technologies. A maximum of four Buddhist Temples can be built. Buddhist Monks can pick up Relics and place them in this building to generate gold. A maximum of three Relics can be placed inside a Buddhist Temple.
Five Mountain Ministries (Passive, requires Five Mountain Ministries): Every six seconds, Sohei's Sutra is applied to the nearest enemy military unit not already affected within a 10 tile radius, reducing the unit's damage by 50% for 60 seconds.
Originally, the Buddhist Temple had access to the standard Monastery technologies. With patch 9.2.628, these technologies were removed and replaced with new, unique technologies.
With patch 9.2.628, a build limit of 4 was imposed upon the Buddhist Temple to limit the scalability of its new Five Mountain Ministries ability that was also introduced in the patch.
