—In-game description |
The Buddhist Monk is a religious unit in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend that is unique to the Japanese and can be trained at the Temple of Equality, as well as the Buddhist Temple. It is one of two possible replacements for the standard Monk for the Japanese, the other being the Shinto Priest.
Like all Monk variants, it can pick up Relics, convert enemy units, capture Sacred Sites, and heal friendly units, but it also has several unique abilities.
Ability[]
Heal (Passive/Active): Heals friendly units at 7 hit points per second up to full health from a distance of one tile. This can be targeted by right-clicking on a unit, or the nearest unit within a 5 tile radius will automatically be healed. Targets in combat are healed 50% slower.
Toggle Automatic Healing (Toggled): Toggle automatic healing on or off.
Drop Relic: Drop a held Relic at a particular location. This can only be used to drop-off a Relic on the map, not in a building such as a Buddhist Temple, which must be right clicked while holding the Relic.
Buddhist Conversion (Active): While carrying a Relic, attempts to convert all units within a 4.75 tile radius to its side. Any enemy units remaining within the radius at the end of a 6 second countdown are converted. Siege engines, hero units, and other religious units are not affected. Upon casting, allied units within the radius during the conversion attempt gain +20% base damage (not bonus damage). Has a 120 second cooldown. This ability can be upgraded to Nehan Conversion by researching Nehan, which additionally grants allies within the conversion radius +25% movement speed for 20 seconds and reduces the cooldown to 90 seconds.
Sohei's Sutra (Active/Passive): Reduces enemy damage by 50% for 60 seconds and has a 6-tile range. If there are no nearby allied units to heal, the Buddhist Monk will cast this ability automatically on the nearest unaffected enemy with a 2-second cooldown. This ability affects both standard and bonus damage.
Additionally, Buddhist Monks can be upgraded to generate 25 gold every 60 seconds by researching Zen.
Unit comparison[]
This section is most likely incomplete and may need expansion. You can help by adding to it. |
Compared to the standard Monk, the Buddhist Monk is approximately 47% cheaper, and moves faster. It has a unique ability which once activated reduces enemy attack damage, and its conversions enhance friendly unit damage. Since the Japanese lack Piety, its hit points cannot be improved, unlike all other monk units.
