—Thoth upon casting Book of Thoth

Book of Thoth is an Egyptian god power in Age of Empires: Mythologies available to worshipers of Thoth. It grants the player a second use of all other god powers that they have already used prior.

Strategy

As Thoth warns when casting the god power, players must plan carefully before casting Book of Thoth. It only grants a second use of god powers that have already been cast so its usefulness increases if it is saved for later. Thoth is a minor god unique to Ra, so during a game Book of Thoth can grant a second use for up to three of the following god powers:

This creates a plethora of possibilities. Economically, being able to cast Rain or Swarm of Locusts twice will provide the player with a significant food advantage over the enemy. Offensively, casting Eclipse twice also prevents the enemy from using their god powers and makes the player's myth units stronger twice as long. Enemies can be overwhelmed with two casts of Tornado, which can nearly eradicate an entire enemy town within a span as little as three turns (one to cast Tornado, a second to cast Book of Thoth and a third to cast Tornado again). But the most notable usage of Book of Thoth is to prolong the existence of the Son of Osiris which would otherwise disappear after 10 turns. Having the strongest hero in the game for twice as long will secure a considerable military advantage for the player.

Players should remember to not take the second use of their god powers for granted and simply cast them knowing they will receive a second chance. Every use of a god power should be cast for maximum effect. If casting Book of Thoth early is all it would take to win a game, players should by all means do so. Otherwise, it's best to wait until at least two god powers have been used before casting Book of Thoth.
