Black Brunswickers are ranged heavy infantry, similar to the Musketeer. They are specially effective against cavalry due to their melee multiplier, but vulnerable against artillery and long-ranged infantry units like the Skirmisher.
In comparison with Musketeers, Black Brunswickers are similar in their food and coin cost, Line of Sight, and melee attack. They have less hit points, ranged attack, and train slightly slower, but have higher speed, slightly increased range, and faster Rate of Fire in ranged combat. Combined with Drummers, Home City Cards, and infantry upgrades, Black Brunswickers can further increase their movement speed. In addition, their faster attack speed in ranged combat allows them to perform hit-and-run tactics more easily.
Black Brunswickers benefit from the Combat Promotion. This ability increases their hit points and attack after defeating an enemy military unit, up to a maximum of three enemy units. Black Brunswickers get +15% hit points and attack for the first defeated enemy unit; +30% for the second one; +45% for the third defeated unit. These stats can be higher with Home City Cards or upgrades that increase Musketeer-type units hit points and attack, like Socket Bayonet and Flint Lock.

History[]
“
The House of Hanover ruled much of northwestern Germany from the 17th century up through the 20th century. During the Napoleonic Wars, the Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg recruited an elite force in opposition to French occupation of parts of Germany. This force's black uniforms lent themselves to their colloquial name, the 'Black Brunswickers'. They became known as a force to be feared during Napoleon’s invasion of Spain, but persisted as a deadly force through the remainder of the war and beyond, their insignia of the skull and crossbones heralding the impending doom of their enemies.
