“ | Ships 22 experienced Crossbowmen from your homeland, plus your normal Crossbowmen are improved. | ” |
—In-game description |
Besteiros was a technology in Age of Empires III that was unique to the Portuguese and could be researched at the Church once the Fortress Age had been reached and the "Treaty of Tordesillas" Home City Card had been sent. Once researched, 22 Crossbowmen named Besteiro appeared at the Home City shipment point, and all existing Crossbowmen were renamed to Besteiros and upgraded to Veteran and Guard Crossbowmen.
Changelog[]
Age of Empires III[]
- Besteiros costs 2,400 wood, upgrades Crossbowmen into Veteran Crossbowmen and get +30% hit points and attack.
Definitive Edition[]
- Besteiros costs 2,000 wood and upgrades Crossbowmen into Veteran and Guard Crossbowmen.
Knights of the Mediterranean[]
- With update 13.27885, Besteiros is removed from the game and replaced by Ordenança.
Trivia[]
- This technology's name derives from besteiro which means "Crossbowman" in Portuguese, thus the renaming is somewhat irrelevant in a literal sense.
- The Portuguese Expeditionary Company and Portuguese Expeditionary Force, available for the Indians and the Japanese in The Asian Dynasties through the Consulate by allying with the Portuguese, includes Besteiros. Unlike the Portuguese version, however, the Consulate version is automatically upgraded in every Age, including the Imperial Age.
