“ | Master Swordsman who excels in melee combat | ” |
The Bedouin Swordsman is a unique light melee infantry unit of the Ayyubids in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend. It can only be obtained from the House of Wisdom through the Bazaar branch of the Trade Wing as one of the potential tickets. The cost and amount of swordsmen obtained depend on the age in which the Trade Wing was researched. The Bedouin Swordsman has an attack bonus versus all melee units. Bedouin Swordsmen are upgraded for free upon reaching the next age.
Like all Ayyubid infantry, they can build Mangonels and Springalds in addition to Battering Rams and Siege Towers with no research required.
Training method[]
The cost and number of units created depends on when Bazaar was researched:
Gold cost | Number of units | Gold per unit | |
---|---|---|---|
Advancing to Feudal | 150 | 2 | 75 |
Advancing to Castle | 350 | 5 | 70 |
Advancing to Imperial or further | 425 | 8 | 53.125 |
Tactics[]
Bedouin Swordsmen have comparable stats to Men-at-Arms, despite being light infantry. While they have higher hit points, speed, and a faster Rate of Fire, they have no base armor, and suffer a weakness to Archers rather than Crossbowmen. They additionally have a damage bonus against all melee units, improving their performance even more against common units like Men-at-Arms and Knights.
However, their inability to be trained and reliance on random trades at the House of Wisdom makes them difficult to utilize, and nearly impossible to mass, as the player can never guarantee how many will be available in any given game.
