| —In-game description if constructing as the first wing | ||
Bazaar is an Age-up technology for the Ayyubids in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend that can be researched at the House of Wisdom. It advances the player to the next Age, except when researched in the Imperial Age, and adds +5,000 hit points to the House of Wisdom. Additionally, neutral trade caravans arrive every three minutes offering exchange of resources and units. The quality of these exchanges is permanently set with the Age in which Bazaar was researched.
Gameplay[]
The Bazaar branch of the Trade Wing is the least straightforward of all the bonuses. Every three minutes, four neutral Traders (a 'trade caravan') will show up at the Trade Wing, and present four available 'trades'. Available trades are lit up in the House of Wisdom UI with a superimposed number showing how many times that trade can be made. The next time the Trade Caravan arrives, they will have four new trades available. Trades cannot be stacked; there can only ever be a maximum of four available trades, and any unused trades are lost when the next Trade Caravan shows up. The available trades are random, and there is no limit to the number of one particular trade type. Thus, it is theoretically possible (although with extremely low probability) to have 4 of one type of trade.
Depending on the Age in which the Trade Wing is built, the cost and return of each trade will be different, with the Imperial Age providing the most favorable trades. The trades always cost gold, and return either food, wood, stone, Trade Caravans, Bedouin Swordsmen, or Bedouin Skirmishers. The latter two options can only be obtained through trades and cannot be created in any other way. The table below shows the potential options in each Age.
Age-wise comparison[]
| Age | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Food cost of Age-up | 400 | 1,200 | 2,400 |
| Gold cost of Age-up | 200 | 600 | 1,200 |
| Gold cost of trade | 150 | 350 | 425 |
| Food received per trade | 225 | 625 | 1,025 |
| Wood received per trade | 225 | 625 | 1,025 |
| Stone received per trade | 175 | 325 | 525 |
| 2 | 4 | 6 | |
| 2 | 5 | 8 | |
| 2 | 5 | 8 |
Strategy[]
The random and unpredictable nature of the Bazaar branch of the Trade Wing makes it unsuitable if the player is planning to use a specific strategy. However, it can synergize well with an economic boom using Trade Caravans, which often leaves the player with large amounts of gold, and the trades can allow efficiently spending the gold fairly quickly. Trades offering food and wood can be useful for constructing additional military buildings and producing units, while stone can be used to construct defenses. Trading for additional Trade Caravans can help grow the economy even more and leave extra gold for future trades, while Bedouin Swordsmen and Bedouin Skirmishers can supplement the player's army with their unique roles in the counter system.
