Atlatl is a technology in Age of Empires II: The Forgotten that is unique to the Aztecs and can be researched at the Castle. Once researched, it increases the attack and range of Skirmishers and Genitours by +1.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
Atlatl is a valuable asset as the Aztecs main counter to archers, the Eagle Warrior, is very costly in terms of gold. Skirmishers can be created without the need for gold. With Atlatl researched, Aztec Skirmishers can even outmatch the Archer line for range. Unfortunately, the Aztecs still lack Ring Archer Armor and Thumb Ring, but Atlatl can compensate that quite effectively.

History[edit | edit source]
- "Atlatl" is a classical Nahuatl word for a spear thrower, essentially a stick with a nook in one end. This device was used to extend the fighter's arm and thus hurl spears or darts with greater momentum. Aztec warriors made extensive use of the atlatl, which had an effective range of over a hundred meters.
