“ | Hill Fort summoned by Ullr to defend the realm of men. Garrisons units, and trains elite units and siege weapons. | ” |
—In-game description |
The Asgardian Hill Fort is a Classical Age Fortress-type building for the Norse in Age of Mythology: Retold that is summoned through the Asgardian Bastion god power available to Ullr. It looks like a frozen Hill Fort, and is effectively a stronger one available an Age earlier, with no build limit. Like the Hill Fort, an Asgardian Hill Fort counts for the building requirement to age up to the Mythic Age, once the Heroic Age is reached.
When the god power is invoked, a foundation for this building is placed at 50% hit points, which is then built up automatically. Players can also send their foot soldiers to work on this foundation to construct it faster.
Overview[]
It can do everything a Hill Fort can do, and is affected by technologies and bonuses which affect Hill Forts. It also has an unmentioned benefit of being able to train Huskarls right from the Classical Age. With Ydalir researched, it can also begin training Portable Rams earlier than usual.
Like most other buildings summoned by god powers, the Asgardian Hill Fort is immune to Deconstruction. However, like the Lure, it is vulnerable to Drought. For the purposes of resource bounty, it has an internal cost of 240 wood, 300 gold, 5 favor.

Mythology[]
“ | After the creation of the cosmos, the Aesir gods hired a jotun (giant) to build a fortification, according to Snorri Sturluson that would be "reliable and secure against mountain-giants and frost-giants even though they should come over into Midgard. The builder claimed that he could build the hill fort in three seasons, and his price was the goddess Freyja's hand in marriage as well as the sun and moon. The gods, confident that he would not be able to complete this task in the allotted time frame, agreed. The builder was allowed to use his horse Svadilfari in the building process; however, the Aesir soon realized that Svadilfari was no regular horse, and his supernatural abilities were allowing the builder to complete the hill fort at an alarming rate. So, the gods convinced Loki to solve the issue: Loki transformed into a mare and distracted Svadilfari, preventing the builder from completing the fortification on time. Enraged by the Aesir's trick, the builder grew angry and attacked, allowing the Aesir to break their oath - Thor killed the builder and the Aesir received a top tier fortress for free. |
