Strategy[]

Like most revolutions included in the Definitive Edition, picking Argentina can be a finishing move. It is preferable to pick Argentina if the player previously focused on siege weapons (especially Mortars, as this revolution enables the player to upgrade them to Imperial Howitzers), cavalry (as the Gaucho and Granadero are cavalry units) or mercenary units/outlaws (as this revolution provides several shipments of them or that lets the player spam them). The Granadero unit is like a Grenadier mounted on a horse, while Gauchos behave similar to Mexican Cuerudos and United States Cowboys, with the difference that its attack slows down the movement of enemy units, and have similar stats as the Comancheros.

A good strategy with Argentina is to focus early on food and cavalry and then, when revolting, start to replace the cavalry with Granaderos and back them with Gauchos. The other way to play with this revolution is to focus early on coin, prepare several mercenary-related shipments before revolting, then revolt, send the Trattoria and Buenos Aires shipments, and send Hire Italian Elmetti, Hire Li'l Bombards, and Outlaw Band. In any case, the support of artillery may be needed, and Argentina offers good options for that. If the initial all-in attack fails, Argentina also offers economic support shipments that focus mainly on livestock, so the player may later use the food for successive Gaucho and Mounted Granadero Raids.

Recommended shipments[]

For all civilizations
  • Mortar Shipments, especially TEAM 2 Mortars.
  • Advanced Arsenal: Improvements allowed by this shipment benefit all the units Argentina Provides. Italians don't have this shipment, they instead have the better Milanese Arsenal Shipment.
  • Stockyards: Gauchos can gather food from herdables and this shipment helps to fatten those faster.
  • Landgrab: Makes Livestock Pens cheaper, which synergizes with the Gaucho ability of gathering from herdable animals.
  • Factory Shipments and Capitalism: Since the economy stops momentarily when revolting (as long as the player has not shipped Citizenship), having a trickle of resources is helpful.
  • Castrametation: Ships 1 Fort Wagon; Fort build limit +1; the Explorer can build Outposts and Forts
  • Mercenary Loyalty: Mercenary shipments cost -10% to -25%
  • Theaters: Upgrades the Tavern to the Theater which can train Ronin; outlaws take -2 population
  • Mercenary unit shipments.
  • Refrigeration: Villagers gather food 20% faster and this applies to all livestock.
For Spanish
  • Viceroyalty of New Spain: Ships 2 Hacienda Wagons. As Cows can work at Haciendas, while this building also has a trickle of resources and is able to train villagers even after revolting, it is a good idea to have it.
  • Liberation March: Infantry, cavalry, and Shock Infantry get +5% speed and -35% train time. This benefits Gauchos, Granaderos, and Revolutionaries
  • Unction: Missionaries increase the attack of nearby units; this of course can boost the attack of Gauchos, Granaderos, and Imperial Howitzers
  • Llama Ranching: Gauchos can collect from herdables, so having previously fattened Llamas can help to sustain economy while revolting
  • TEAM Inquisition: All units get +10 Line of Sight, so this will benefit Imperial Howitzers, Gatlings, Gauchos, Granaderos, Ironclads, Mercenaries and Revolutionaries.
  • TEAM Fencing Instructor, Conquistador, Hand Cavalry Hitpoints and Hand Cavalry Attack: all of these benefit San Martin.
  • Peninsular Guerrillas: this benefits revolutionaries, Spanish Musketeers out of Criollos and Mercenaries that are also ranged Infantry or musket infantry.
  • Royal Decree to Claim the New World: it enables Corselet which benefits Revolutionaries and other similar infantry including mercenaries, and Walloon Guards which ships Fusiliers (Heavy infantry mercenaries) and enables them at the Tavern.
  • Spanish Gold: Ships 1 Spanish Treasure Chest containing 330 coin with every shipment.
For Germans
  • TEAM Cavalry Attack: This benefits Gauchos, Lancers, Elmetti, San Martín and Granaderos.
  • Riding School: This can facilitate the further creation of Gauchos and Granaderos.
  • Spanish Riding School: Granaderos, San Martín, Elmetti, Lancers and Gauchos are counted as cavalry, so they will move a bit faster.
  • Buergermeister: This improves San Martin.
  • TEAM Reichsritter: reduces the cost of stables which is useful for spamming Mounted Granaderos and Gauchos.
  • Treaty of Westphalia: Enables Wallenstein's Contracts which reduces the cost of mercenary chipments and mercenaries and Tilly's Discipline which improves infantry including Revolutionaries, Spanish Musketeers and mercenary infantry, at the Church.
  • Guild Artisans: Settler Wagons gather 35% faster.
  • Economic Theory: Villagers gather 10% faster.
  • Witch Hammer: Ships 3 Inquisitors; Inquisitors can be trained at Tavern/Mercenary Camps, Town Centers, Church and Outposts; outlaws use -2 population.
  • Improved Mercenaries: Mercenaries get +15% hit points and attack.
  • Mercenary Camps: Upgrades Taverns into Mercenary Camps that get cost -50%, build time -25%, build bounty and hit points -50%, auto gather coin -60%, build limit +3, and offer a fixed assortment of German mercenaries: Landsknechts, Jaegers, Giant Grenadiers, Black Riders, Pandours;
For Italians
  • Riding School: This can facilitate the further creation of Gauchos and Granaderos.
  • Infantry Hit Points: This benefits Revolutionaries, Spanish Musketeers and mercenary infantry.
  • Cavalry Combat: Cavalry get +15% hit points and attack. This benefits Gauchos and Granaderos.
  • Lombard Shipments: Lombards are very helpful for balancing an economy even without Villagers. Argentina provides Buenos Aires, which already ships two Lombard Wagons, so improving the building with Uffizi, Usury, and Advanced Lombards is quite useful.
  • Milanese Arsenal: Not only provides more technologies that improve all units Argentina provides, it also gives them a discount.
  • Venetian Arsenal: Arsenals improves the workrate of military buildings near them, which can be useful for spamming more Granaderos, Gauchos, or Revolutionaries.

Commerce Age

  • The Logistician (all): For the Italians, he ships 1 Arsenal Wagon (2 with Advanced Politicians), and the next Arsenal technology is free, which benefits military units from any revolution. For the Germans, he ships 1 Arsenal Wagon, and Exploration and Commerce Age Home City Cards give one additional Uhlan. Uhlans can be a good pairing for Granaderos and Gauchos; for the Spanish, Exploration Age Home City Cards are shipped in 30 seconds, and also ships 150 food, 100 wood, 75 coin. This can make up for fast age advancements, and getting the shipments needed for preparing the Revolution early.
  • The Naturalist (all except Italians): She gives an early economic boost that may be used for a fast Revolution strategy. Also, since it is likely the player has a deck with improvements for herdable animals (like Cows) because the advantages of this revolution, she synergizes quite well.
  • The Medici (Italians): Gives a Settler and a Lombard Wagon that are helpful for performing a Fast Revolution strategy. The Lombard is also useful when revolting, since it can keep the economy going a bit.
  • The Philosopher Prince (all): Like The Naturalist, he can make up for a fast age advancement.

Fortress Age

Industrial Age

  • The Cavalry Marshal (all): Since Argentina adds more variety to cavalry units, the player may pick The Cavalry Marshal in order to prepare the raid.
  • The Viceroy (Germans): He helps to get the resources for the revolution. Also the two Settler Wagons will be turned into Revolutionaries.
  • The Engineer (all): Since it is likely the player has an artillery-based deck due to the advantages Argentina gives to Mortars, The Engineer may synergize with Argentina .

  • Argentina's availability to the Germans is a reference to Ulrich Schmidl, a German Landsknecht who served on an expedition to the Rio de la Plata (today's Argentina) and became a founder of Buenos Aires in 1536.
