—Age of Empires IV description |
The Aqueduct is a building in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend, and is unique to the Byzantines. It is a tall wall-like structure that is used to connect multiple Cisterns, increasing their water levels based on how many Cisterns are connected in the network. This enables the Cistern's Farm gathering bonus for Villagers and their other influence abilities. Aqueducts can be connected directly to Stone Walls, which will continue the Aqueduct network and effectively act as Aqueducts themselves. However, since a Stone Wall cannot be connected directly to a Cistern, an Aqueduct must be placed between the Wall and the Cistern to make the final connection. Aqueducts do not block the passage of any units.
Tactics and placement[]
Aqueducts, like walls, are built in segments of varying lengths that cost more resources the longer they are. However, unlike walls, which are interrupted by any object in their path but can still be built in split segments, Aqueducts must be built in continuous segments and thus interact differently with objects on the map:
- Animal Carcasses, Berry Bushes and Farms/Olive Groves: Aqueducts can be continuously built over these resources, effectively ignoring them when placed
- Buildings and Mines: Aqueducts get automatically routed around these objects as closely as possible.
- Forests and Sacred Sites: Aqueducts cannot be built at all through these objects. They will not automatically route around them
- Palisade Walls: Aqueducts can be continuously built over palisade walls and Gates (but not Stone Walls or Gates)
Aqueducts, like walls, do not interact with influence areas and as such, are not affected by the Cistern's influence.
