Ancient Techniques is a unique technology in Age of Empires IV available to the Chinese that can be researched at the University or Spirit Way in the Imperial Age. Once researched, Villagers will receive a 4% increase in gathering rate for every Dynasty the player has reached / reaches. At worst, the technology grants a 4% boost to Villagers, since the player starts in the Tang Dynasty.
If researched at the University, the technology researches 150% faster when the University is supervised by an Imperial Official. If researched at the Spirit Way, the technology researches 150% faster by default, and costs 50% less.

- Originally, the cost was 150 wood, 350 gold, and research time of 60 seconds. With the Season One Update, the cost is 200 wood, 500 gold and research time of 90 seconds.
- Originally, Ancient Techniques was only available at the University. With Season Two Update 17718, it is also available at the Spirit Way for 50% normal cost and at 2.5x research speed
- Originally, it provided +5% gather rate per dynasty. With patch 7.1.113, this was decreased to +4% per dynasty.
