Ancient Spires is a hybrid random map in Age of Empires IV featuring ponds and rock spires dotted across the map.

Ancient Spires is a hybrid land/water map notable for its large rock formations (the 'spires'). Combined with the several ponds of various sizes dotted across the map, this creates several choke points that can be easily walled off. The number of ponds can vary but in a 1 vs 1, there will almost always be 6 ponds, and in team games, there can be between 2 and 3 ponds per player. The map generation will always attempt to place one pond within view of the starting Town Center. The ponds can sometimes be small enough that it can be difficult to place a dock without removing the Shore Fish, and they offer minimal strategic value for anything but Fishing Boats. The map includes two Trade Posts and Sacred Sites with the Trade Posts placed along the map edges anywhere from the middle to the corner, and the Sacred Sites placed towards the middle of the map in between the players. Ancient Spires features the standard Relic generation distributed evenly around the map.

Ancient Spires has the standard distributions for all resources, including starting player resource. On top of this, each pond on Ancient Spires also typically comes with 5 Shoreline Fish. Sometimes, if two ponds are very close together, one can have six fish and the other four. The map generates with the standard two large circular woodlines per player, but additional large woodlines can also sometimes be found elsewhere on the map, as well as regularly distributed small woodlines. Patches of stealth forest also dot the landscape. The other resources are all distributed fairly evenly across the map.
