Maya pyramid that acts as a powerful, defensive fortification.
—In-game description

The American Citadel (Maya Castle before update 14.43676) is a military/defensive building in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - Knights of the Mediterranean since update 13.18214. It can only be built by American Citadel Travois which are shipped once Maya Pyramids is researched at a Trading Post or Tambo placed on a Maya settlement, or by the Aztecs through the "Oztuma Citadel" Home City Card.

The American Citadel Travois builds the American Citadel in 50 seconds.

Overview[]

The American Citadel has a powerful ranged attack that deals Area of Effect damage, which can easily fend off small group of enemy units in the early game. It is stat-wise similar to Inca Strongholds, except it cannot garrison military units and is more expensive. On top of defensive use, it can also train Maya Holcan Javelineers and Healers, as well as Barracks infantry, Grenadiers, and Falconets or their equivalents.

The American Citadel is the only way to train Haudenosaunee and Lakota Healers, Aztec Warrior Priests, and Inca Priestesses directly for their price.
