This article is about the alliance available to the Hausa. For the minor civilization, see Akan. |
The Akan are a Commerce Age Alliance option for the Hausa in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - The African Royals. As soon as the player advances into the Commerce Age or higher by allying with the Akan, a Native Embassy Builder appears from the Town Center. Allying with the Akan also provides the following benefits:

- Palace and Native Embassy

Technology | Cost | Description |
---|---|---|
Akan Gold Economy | 585 influence | Ships 1 Gold Prospector Wagon Villagers gather from mines 10% faster |
Akan Palm Oil Exports | 90 influence | Exchanges all food for 50% wood and 50% coin |
Alliance[]
The player is considered to be allied with the Akan for the Native Treaties Home City Card effects.
Shipments[]
- 1 Native Embassy Builder and 300 influence
- 1 Native Embassy Builder and 6 Akan Ankobias
- 1 Native Embassy Builder and 8 Akan Ankobias
- 1 Native Embassy Builder and 16 Akan Ankobias
Strategy[]
The Akan alliance is focused primarily on economic growth. Both technologies provided give the player more coin. Akan Gold Economy provides a Gold Prospector Wagon and improves coin gathering rates from mines by 10% ,while Akan Palm Oil Exports changes all the food in the stockpile into 50% coin and 50% wood. Akan Palm Oil Exports makes this alliance one of the best picks when playing on a naval map, as warships costs wood and coin. Akan is also a great pick if the player focuses heavily on cavalry or is using Watch Tower units, as these units costs coin and food; Akan Palm Oil exports should be used when the player has a good surplus of food in order to get the most out of it. The coin surplus of both technologies may also be used for training Sanga Cattle, which generate influence, can be fattened for food, or can be exchanged at the livestock Market for more coin or wood.
The Akan alliance offers the Akan Ankobia, which is a Musketeer-type infantry with a weaker ranged attack than most similar infantry, but with a short-range splash damage which makes them deadlier if deployed en masse.
If used for aging up into the Fortress Age onward, the player will get Akan Ankobias instead of influence. IF the player uses the Akan f.or aging up into Commerce Age, they will receive 300 influence that can be used to either research Akan Palm Oil Exports immediately or save it for Akan Gold Economy
The Akan alliance also activates the Akan native alliance, which means it is also a good pick when focusing on native units and will count for the Native Treaties shipment. They make a good combination with the Berber and Yoruba alliances.
