Age of Empires Mobile is a free-to-play mobile game available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store released on October 17, 2024. The game is being developed by TiMi Studios and published by Level Infinite (formerly known as Proxima Beta Pte. Ltd.), both of which are subsidiaries of Tencent Games. The game setting is not fixed to a specific historical period, and ranges from the ancient era to the late middle ages. It features classic real-time strategy traits like being able to gather resources, construct buildings, train armies, and engage in battles to expand their territories, and it also features new unique features mentioned below.
A look at the gameplay was first revealed in the "New Year, New Age" event on February 23, 2024.[1] Like many other mobile games, it features microtransactions in the form of in-game currency that players can purchase with real money, and use the currency for in-game purchases to gain rewards and buffs to gain an advantage.
Civilizations[]
- French: French architecture incorporated elements from Gothic and Renaissance cultures. French military tactics are represented by offensive units hurling throwing axes at enemies, effectively disrupting their formations.
- Byzantines: Byzantine architecture is a beautiful fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, characterized by its prominent rounded dome roofs. The Cataphracts constitute the most formidable forces within their legion.
- Romans: Roman architecture is known for its symmetrical plain structures featuring thick walls, arches, domed roofs, pillars, and massive towers. Roman lance infantry units are recognized for their utilization of the phalanx formation.
- Chinese: Chinese architecture is distinguished by dougong brackets and intricate eaves. Chinese Archer units are recognized for their use of rapid-fire crossbows.
- Japanese: Japanese architecture blends seamlessly with nature, emphasizing balanced proportions and a natural look. Samurai, dedicated to honor and virtue, use their sharp swords to destroy all enemies.
- Koreans: Traditional Korean architecture often uses wood or bracket structures, making them very stable. Their defensive warriors are like unbreakable shields, standing strong against any attack.
- British: British architecture is renowned for its castles and fortresses, designed with defense in mind. Veteran bowmen and longbowmen, as signature units, help their legions become invincible on the battlefield.
- Egyptians: Egyptian architecture focuses on order and symmetry, with the iconic pyramids symbolizing the pharaoh's power and eternal life. Under the watchful eyes of ancient dieties, warriors along the Nile stand ready to repel all invaders.
Heroes[]
The game features recruitable heroes, who come with a specific type of troops, among swordsmen, pikemen, cavalry, and archers. Each hero has special skills to be used in battle.
Alliances[]
Players can form alliances with other players and has mechanisms such as alliance technologies, alliance assistance, alliance treasures, etc. Investing in an alliance benefits everyone, while also specifically rewarding the investing players and boosting their Hospital work rates. Players can also invest directly in their allies who request for assistance, which yields rewards for the helper. Allied players can rally together their armies to attack enemies that they cannot take down alone.
Regions[]
The game offers an extensive and vast map for all other players. The map is divided into regions with its own traits and purposes. Players begin the game in the outermost regions called the Birth Regions, the middle circle consists of Resource Regions, the central region is the Kingsland which hosts the Imperial City, capturing which grants victory. The regions are separated by natural and artificial barriers.
Capture points[]
Various cities, monuments, passes, crossings, etc. that players can besiege and capture. They grant specific bonuses and rewards to their rulers.
Terrain[]
The game world features terrain types with their own effects and ways of interaction, such as slow effect, ambush, etc.
Weather[]
Several weather effects and natural calamities can randomly occur with gameplay ramifications, such as rain, tornadoes, etc.
Events[]
Various timed events appear periodically which can grant rewards, such as Supplies Bounty, Treasure Hunt, etc. The start and end of events are shown in the in-game calendar.
