Adjustable Crossbars is a technology in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the Siege Workshop in the Imperial Age. Once researched, Mangonels gain +1 projectile (4 total), +1 range, and their projectiles have +100% area of effect radius. It is available to every civilization, except the Chinese and Zhu Xi's Legacy (both of which have Nest of Bees instead of the Mangonel).

Civilization bonuses

• Abbasid Dynasty: Research speeds are +15%/+20% faster while Golden Age tiers 2/3 are active
• Ayyubids: Research speeds are 25% faster while Golden Age tier 2 is active
• Byzantines: Research speeds are 30% faster per water level at buildings within the influence of a Cistern with the Dialecticus ability active.
• Delhi Sultanate: The technology is free, but takes 12x as long to research (1080 seconds instead of 90 seconds). The research time can be further decreased by 50% if a Scholar is garrisoned inside the Siege Workshop at which it is researched.
• Japanese: Research speed is +150% faster when researched at a Siege Workshop with a Yorishiro garrisoned.
• Malians: Technologies take less time to research based on how much gold has been obtained through trade.

Changelog

• Originally, the base research time for the Delhi Sultanate was 5x default (450 seconds). With update 8324, this was increased to 15x default (1350 seconds). With Season Two Update 17718, it takes 12x as long (1080 seconds).
• Originally, Adjustable Crossbars cost 200 wood, 500 gold and increased the attack speed of Mangonels by 25%. The Mongols could research the improved version for an additional 700 stone to further increase the attack speed by 10% (35% total). With update 12.0.1974, the technology costs 1,000 wood, 1,200 gold and grants Mangonels +1 range, +1 projectile, +100% splash radius. Improved Adjustable Crossbars was removed.

Campaign version

Because the campaigns do not get rebalanced with each update, Adjustable Crossbars maintains the same stats in each campaign that it had upon the campaign's release. Therefore, in the original four campaigns:

• It costs 175 wood, 600 gold and is researched at the Arsenal.
• It reduces the reload time of Mangonels by 3 seconds
• The Mongols can research the improved version for an additional 775 stone to further reduce the reload time by 1 second (-4 seconds total)

In the The Sultans Ascend campaign

• It costs 200 wood, 500 gold and increases the attack speed of Mangonels by 25%.
