This article is about the list of abilities in Age of Mythology. For the list of abilities in other games, see Ability. |

Abilities are special actions or effects for units and buildings in Age of Mythology which are either activated by a unit in combat, or are constantly active as a passive effect. Some units have multiple abilities, and certain abilities are conferred after researching specific myth technologies.
In the original game, abilities are not named. Retold adds names and icons to the game's interface for each ability, and adds and changes several abilities.
Manually-activated abilities[]
These abilities must be either manually activated by the player in order to use them, or are automatically used by the unit in certain circumstances. Most of them do not need to recharge after being used.

Trivia[]
- In the original game and Tale of the Dragon, Setna and Zhi have combat ability cooldown bars, but no assigned combat abilities.
- In Retold, there is an unused Amphibious ability with the description: Can traverse both land and water.
- Immortal Pillars has many unused icons for abilities that were not implemented:
- Two unique abilities intended for Wen Zhong, who ultimately did not end up with any unique abilities.
- Two unique abilities intended for Kuafu. Based on the images depicted in the icons, these may have been intended to reflect the improvements they can receive after researching the Mountainous Might (Nüwa) and Chasing the Sun (Houtu) technologies.
- A unique ranged combat ability for the Siege Crossbow, which is implemented in code, but goes unused and is missing text strings.
- Icons for unique secondary abilities for Baihu, Sage, and Taowu. The Sage icon was most likely intended for Distributed Heal, which uses the same icon as their regular Heal ability.
- Icons for unique tertiary abilities for Hundun and Jiang Ziya.
- Unknown "Cavalry", "Decoy Ship" abilities, and two unknown "Enchanted Tree" abilities.
